TrendForce Lifts 2027 HBM Blended-ASP Outlook to 121% Growth as 8-Hi May Lead Shipments
TrendForce now expects 2027 HBM blended ASP to rise 121% year on year and sees 8-Hi stacks potentially becoming the shipment mainstream. The forecast reflects supply, mix and yield assumptions, not completed transaction prices.
TrendForce has raised its forecast for 2027 HBM blended average selling price growth to 121% year on year. It attributes the revision to continuing AI-server demand, tight advanced-process and wafer capacity, and a larger contribution from higher-priced HBM4 [1]. This is a market-research forecast, not a book of signed orders or a uniform price increase for every HBM product. Economic Daily News independently reported the 121% revision and said HBM4e is expected to ramp gradually in the second half of 2027 [2].
The important part of the update is not only the price figure. Product mix is changing how the supply constraint is calculated. TrendForce says GPU and ASIC vendors are discussing lower HBM configurations per system. Against earlier plans that favored 12-Hi stacks, it expects 8-Hi products to become a 2027 shipment mainstream because they use fewer DRAM dies [1]. In the firm's framing, that can reduce stack and system bill-of-materials cost while allowing more GPUs to be supported by the same available bit output. It remains a view of future specification choices and capacity allocation, however, not proof that customers have already cut procurement demand.
The 121% figure is therefore best read as a blended-ASP scenario. Persistent constraints, a richer HBM4 mix and a later HBM4e ramp all raise the average; they do not mean that every generation and capacity point will double in price. John Wood's analysis is that a larger 8-Hi share would let system designers use capacity configuration to moderate cost and supply pressure. It could change HBM content per accelerator without automatically removing wafer, yield or advanced-packaging limits. The next evidence to watch is the real order and shipment mix between 8-Hi and 12-Hi, HBM4 and HBM4e yield-ramp progress, and whether new capacity becomes saleable bits on schedule. Until then, TrendForce's 121% is an explicitly attributed forward estimate, not a spot quote or an investment conclusion.
